Onyx is a type of marble and a member of the chalcedony family, famed for its translucence and ability to transmit light. While most marbles are opaque, onyx can be lit from behind to create stunning, one-of-a-kind installations.

The name "onyx" comes from the Greek word for "claw" or "fingernail".

According to ancient Roman mythology, the goddess Venus was taking a rest on the banks of the Indus River when her son Cupid decided to trim her nails. As he collected the clippings, they fell to the ground and were transformed into stone, which we now know as onyx. Cupid, always the resourceful one, saw the potential for these stones and decided to use them to create jewelry for his mother. This mythological tale is one of the many reasons why onyx has been considered a precious stone throughout history. The legend adds an aura of mystique and beauty to the already stunning natural patterns and translucence of onyx.

Today, onyx continues to be highly valued for its beauty and unique properties.
