Porcelain and ceramic tile sound very alike, but are very different from one another in how they look, function, wear, and how they are made. Like ceramic tile, porcelain is a man-made material derived from clay. Unlike ceramic tile, which is made from wet clay, porcelain is made from compressed clay dust that has been fired to extremely high temperatures. The result is a tile that is incredibly durable, scratch resistant, stain resistant, and heat resistant. It may be glazed to take on different appearances or the color may go right through the tile. Depending on how the porcelain is made, it may vary naturally in color, veining, and pattern, giving it a more realistic look than some printed tiles.

Porcelain is durable enough to use on most high traffic floors, as well as on shower walls and other high-use spaces. It’s non porous, so it can be used in steam showers, and it’s available in large format sizes that can give you clean, modern looks for any room of the home. Porcelain can be polished to give it a smooth, sleek surface even glossier than marble, or it can be given a range of textures that make it a non-skid option appropriate for any space.

Porcelain can be found in patterns, in styles that resemble the look of wood, fabric, metal, or stone, and in a range of sizes. Our selection of porcelain tile colors, sizes, and patterns is unmatched, giving you the choices you need to match any design. Once installed, your porcelain tile will hold up well to pets, children, and foot traffic of all kinds, looking beautiful for many years to come.
